Brave stories: when you started dressing for yourself again

Storie coraggiose: quando hai ricominciato a vestirti per te

There are times when we stop dressing for who we are… and start dressing for who we "should" be.

For practicality. For work. To not stand out. Because "in the end, it doesn't matter."

But it matters a great deal. Because clothes, for better or worse, speak even when we are silent.

This article inaugurates a series that is very dear to us: Brave Stories.

True stories of women who, at a certain point, started choosing for themselves again. Even if it was just a shirt. Even if it was just a color.

When you (almost always) lose yourself a little

Often it's not a single event, it's a sum of small shifts; you start to "simplify" because you have little time, you choose clothes that don't demand energy, you get used to not truly seeing yourself anymore, colors become "too much," patterns "unsuitable," the desire to play "a foolishness."

Then one day something happens: a photo, a mirror, an unexpected compliment, a closet full of "nothing."

And a simple question comes back to you: "What do I really like?"

Roberta's story: the flame rekindled

Roberta has been a client of ours for some time, and we know her story.

When she was young, she loved colors.

She wore them naturally, as if they were part of her way of being in the world: they brought her joy and, without her realizing it, they brought joy to others too.

Over the years, however, something changed. Work, responsibilities, the daily rhythm… and that lightness became rarer.

Slowly, Roberta stopped wearing her favorite colors. Not because she no longer liked them, but because they seemed "no longer like her." Or perhaps, more simply, because she no longer felt entitled.

Then one day she came across our shirts.

And she wrote us a sentence we won't forget:

"These shirts have a powerful effect: they gave me back the courage to dress as I always wanted. They make me feel good."

As happens when something truly resembles you, a flame that was only a little dim, not extinguished, was rekindled.

Today Roberta has ordered two more brave shirts.

And for us, this is the point: it's not "buying a garment." It's choosing oneself again.

Roberta, thank you. We are happy to accompany you on this return.

"Dressing for myself" is not superficial"

It's not vanity, it's identity. It's energy. It's a gentle form of courage.

Dressing for yourself means stopping using your closet as a hiding place and choosing what makes you feel good, not what "works for everyone."

Sometimes just one thing is enough: a color.

Do you want to tell us your story?

If you'd like to participate in Brave Stories, we would be very happy.

You can answer these questions (even just one):

  • When did you stop dressing "for yourself" and why?

  • What was the moment you started again?

  • Is there a color you "reclaimed"?

  • How do you want to feel when you get dressed in the morning?

Write to us via email or DM: if you wish, we will turn it into a story (even anonymously, if you prefer).

A small promise

We will continue to collect and share these stories because they do good.

Because they remind us that freedom is not always a huge gesture: often it's a daily choice, in front of the wardrobe.

And if you need a sign today, maybe this is it:

you can start dressing for yourself again. Even with just one shirt.
